A Legacy in the Canopy: Celebrating Dr. Griëtte van der Heide

The entire GOTC Board and Council extend their most heartfelt congratulations to our past president, Dr. Griëtte van der Heide, on the achievement of her Ph.D. in Anthropology.

A Tenure of Excellence

Since taking the helm in 2019, Griëtte has been the driving force behind our global community. Her leadership spanned a remarkable era of Rendezvous events that took us from the heights of the California Redwoods to the historic Tortworth Estate

in Bristol, England. Even when faced with the challenges of 2020 and 2021, her resolve ensured our community remained connected through innovative virtual events.

Leadership Above and Beyond

Griëtte’s presidency was defined by her passion for excellence. Whether she was navigating intense negotiations with state park officials for our event at Silver Falls State Park or managing the frantic logistics of a last-minute move to Camp Montgomery, she acted with unparalleled grace and precision.

Her contributions reached far beyond the forest floor:

  • Strategic Vision: Unparalleled skills in creating agendas, forming committees, and managing complex budgets.
  • Inspiration: An analytical eye for detail that motivated the entire board to strive to higher standards.
  • Dedication: Countless hours spent ensuring every event was spectacular.

Tipping Our Helmets

What makes this milestone truly extraordinary is that Griëtte achieved her doctorate while simultaneously leading the GOTC through some of its most ambitious years. Her ability to balance the rigors of academic research with the demands of the presidency is a testament to her work ethic and character.

The Next Chapter

As she transitions to her next mission of protecting the well-being of primates and forests across the globe she leaves behind a stronger, more vibrant GOTC. While we will miss her leadership, we are incredibly proud to see her pursue her dreams in conservation and anthropology.

Well done, Griëtte! We wish you the very best in your future endeavors.
